Happy Birthday, Leo!
Although the rest of the signs may not care to admit it, Leo is the star of the zodiac. Ruled by the Sun, which represents the life force, those born under the sign of the Lion are meant to be in the spotlight.
Hard as they may try, no other sign celebrates life with as much joy, enthusiasm and panache as Leo. This is not to say they’re perfect, mind you. While they’re innate nature is warm, loving and generous, they can at times be vain, self-centered and more than a bit melodramatic.
In short, their fiery nature can singe a heart as easily as it warms it.
Although they usually don’t like to share the spotlight, Leos can be quite generous in other ways. In fact, when it comes to spoiling loved ones, they have more than just big hearts. They also have big budgets.
Of all the signs, Leo is the most willful, and they don’t back down. In the wild, the lion’s brute strength protects its pride while the lioness’ fierce hunting skills nourish it.
Likewise, Leo women are just as formidable and accomplished as Leo men.
While Lions Carl Jung, Henry Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Andy Warhol, Gene Kelly, Mick Jagger, Tony Bennett, Kenny Rogers, Fidel Castro, Bill Clinton, Hugo Chavez, Barack Obama, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Martin, Wilt Chamberlain and Magic Johnson have certainly made their mark in the world, so have Lionesses Coco Chanel, Amelia Earhart, Lucille Ball, Julia Child, Jacqueline Kennedy, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, Sandra Bullock, Jacinda Arden, Marine LePen, Megan Markle, Martha Stewart and J.K. Rowling.
Love them or loathe them, you’ll never ignore them because every single Leo is born with star quality.
On August 16, 1987, I was on a gurney just outside the delivery room with my newborn daughter resting comfortably across my chest. A swinging door opened, and in walked the doctor with my mom and dad who had been sitting in the waiting room while I was in delivery.
As they came closer to catch a glimpse of their first and only grandchild, my little cub who was less than two hours old lifted her head ever so slightly and let out a roar to let the world know that she had arrived.
In that instant, we knew a star was born.
And that she knew it as well.
Every member of the zodiac sparkles in its own distinct way, but none of them can rival Leo’s brilliance.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the rest of the zodiac should stop trying.
But as for me, I’m happy to stand in my Leo’s shadow.
